The USGIF Outreach Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2008 Awards Program. Awards are presented for outstanding academic studies, research and development, and achievement in the military, government, and industry sectors. The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, August 15.

The Outreach Committee is the Foundation's arm that is responsible for delivering the Foundation's message to our public and private partners as well as reaching out to the policy and decision makers to ensure the Foundation is best supporting the community and tradecraft. The committee executes its actions through the following subcommittee structure:

  • Awards Subcommittee: Three awards programs fall under the Awards Subcommittee to recognize outstanding achievements and innovations made within the geospatial intelligence tradecraft. The Geospatial Intelligence Achievement Awards and Geospatial Academic Achievement Awards are presented to those nominated by the community and selected by the Awards Subcommittee. The Lifetime Achievement Award recipient is nominated and selected by the USGIF Board of Directors.
    • The Geospatial Intelligence Achievement Award
      recognizes outstanding achievement in the tradecraft by an individual or team from the military, government, and industry sectors.
    • The Geospatial Academic Achievement Award
      commends the achievements of a top graduate of a nationally recognized geospatial intelligence academic program as well as an organization that demonstrates the top geospatial intelligence program or project.
    • The USGIF Lifetime Achievement Award
      is presented, upon selection by the USGIF board, to an influential member of the geospatial intelligence community who has dedicated much of his or her work to the tradecraft.

  • Congressional Subcommittee: The mission of the Congressional Subcommittee is to facilitate support, educational advocacy, and promote the utility of the geospatial intelligence tradecraft to members of congress, staffers, and other federal agencies. Please note, USGIF does not participate in any lobbying activities.

  • Interagency Working Group: The USGIF Interagency Working Group is to serve as a forum for facilitating better industry-government coordination on geospatial intelligence policies and technology sharing within the growing GEOINT Community of Interest. Its responsibilities include:
    • Creating strong communication ties to and among federal agencies (primarily CIA, DHS, DIA, DoJ, NGA, NRO, NSA, State Dept) in order to promote standard GEOINT practices and standard
    • Serving as a forum for invited government and industry subject matter experts to learn and discuss specific issues in policy and technology
    • Advising and assisting the USGIF staff in developing programs which are responsive to the changing needs of the government related to the mission and goals of USGIF, and identifying emerging issues and needs to be addressed

  • Public Relations: The PR Subcommittee supports positive media coverage of the Foundation and its members. Comprising PR points-of-contact from member companies, the PR subcommittee is charged with identifying and creating publicity opportunities that will benefit the Foundation, its members, and the tradecraft.
