The Technical Committee is responsible for developing the Foundation’s technical programs. While participation is encouraged and open to all levels of membership, Strategic Partner, Partner and Patron level members is the voting body on any actions of the committee. The committee functions through the following three subcommittees:
- Tradecraft Development Subcommittee:
Develop and implement ways for the USGIF to become involved in assessing needs for Geospatial Intelligence professionals to support both government and industry. Further to involve the USGIF in determining the basic and advanced qualifications for geospatial intelligence professionals and assessment of education and training programs which prepare individuals for entry of advancement in the GEOINT profession. To access the role of other specialty professionals such as Imagery Scientists, Geodesists, Cartographers, and Imagery Analysts in support of the geospatial intelligence industry. Establish a technical liaison with colleges and universities in support of the Education program of the USGIF. Explore opportunities for establishing GEOINT Technical Centers of Excellence at academic institutions under the auspices of the USGIF Academy.
- GEOINT Demonstration Subcommittee: The committee pulls together the participants and scenario for GEOINT, as well as, at the USGIF Technology Day. In addition, this committee responds to other requests for Demonstrations and identifies other opportunities for USGIF to participate in events where it can provide GEOINT Demonstrations. It also provides recommendations to the TC for standards profiles, which can be supported by the USGIF as “Proven Practices” for the delivery of GEOINT Services.

- Emerging Technologies Subcommittee: Develops and implements a method for the USGIF to identify and track new or emerging technologies which can potentially play a role in addressing needs for Geospatial Intelligence. Serve as a collection point for assembling needs identified by the subcommittees and the community at large, and provides insight regarding gaps between geospatial intelligence needs and existing capabilities. Identifies opportunities for development and/or application of new technologies to fill these gaps, the necessity of the new standards of greater exposures to the technologies, and opportunities to showcase these technologies for USGIF and government organizations.
